We offer nearshore (Sonoma Coast), inshore (San Francisco Bay, Tomalis Bay, Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta), delta, river and lake. Striped Bass, Halibut, Rockfish, and sharks are some of the salt fish we target. The Delta’s warm water offers us some of the best topwater largemouth, smallmouth and striped bass fishing in the country. Topwater is my favorite way to fish. A 4 pound largemouth bass crushing a frog pattern or a striper waking behind your Pole Dancer will stop your heart. Our nearshore fishing provides a unique opportunity to target rockfish in the kelp beds off the Sonoma Coast. Rockfishing with a flyrod has to be one of the most unique opportunities that we offer.
Our bay trips consist of a five hour trip, typically starting three hours before high tide and ending two hours after high. The main species we target are Striped Bass and Halibut. We use 7wt to 10wt fly rods with integrated shooting heads and flies custom tied just for our area. FDO’s uses all premium gear for walk-on clients. If a client chooses this option there will be a “Breakage Fee” assessed with any broken/lost rods or equipment during the charter.
All our fly gear is top of the line with the newest technology. FDO’s fly rods are exclusively TFO. All fly reels are Galvan and fly lines are specific for the style of fishing the Bay Area requires. Captain Gregg also provides and ties most all the flies used on our charters.
Where to Meet
Locations are determined based on weather, conditions and can change at the last minute. It is important to contact me the night before your charter to confirm where we are meeting.
For your convenience, we offer San Francisco waterfront pick up. Please let us know and we will come to you. Unheard of service, only from Feather Dog Outfitters.
What to Bring
Food and beverages, sunscreen, hat, polarized sunglasses, camera, NON-marking shoes, raingear, jacket and personalized tackle if preferred.
What NOT to Bring
Please do not bring large bags or personal coolers. It is important to have a clutter free deck while fishing from our boats. There is a cooler stocked with ice, water and plenty of room for your food.
